The Fairmont Pittsburgh is the new standard of excellence for Pittsburgh-area hotels. There is not another hotel that so completely embraces the city’s industrial past and places it within a LEED Gold Certified environmentally-friendly building--without sacrificing even a minutia of luxury. Just over a year after they opened their doors, The Fairmont Pittsburgh has won numerous awards and accolades as well as glowing consumer reviews.

Three PNC Plaza, the building that houses The Fairmont Pittsburgh, is not only the tallest building added to Pittsburgh’s skyline since 1985, but it is one of the largest certified Green Buildings in the US adding an air of modern luxury to the city. With the advantage of being both the architects behind the new building as well as the designers behind the hotel, Gensler was able to create harmony between the external architectural elements and interior decor.

In designing the interiors of the hotel, PNC and Gensler teamed up with an archeologist to use numerous artifacts found during the excavation for the construction of the building as an art and educational exhibit within The Fairmont Pittsburgh. The color palettes used in the main hotel areas and guestrooms were inspired by the bridges and rivers in the surrounding areas.

Gensler interior designer Miyuki Yamaguchi said of the project, “This first-class hotel celebrates the city's industrial past and current commercial and cultural revitalization of downtown. It brings new modern luxury to Pittsburgh. I believe that the project has helped to bring new pride to the local Pittsburgh residents and new perception of Pittsburgh to the visitors. The richness of artistic and archaeological offerings and pure expression of Pittsburgh in interior design broadens the hotel guests and visitors experience.”

Featured within each of the 185 Pittsburgh-inspired guestroom and suite bathrooms are Electric Mirror’s Silhouette™ lighted mirrors and mirror TVs, adding to the beauty of the design as well as the eco-friendliness of the hotel.
