Wine Country Secret Revealed: SANDdesign captures the essence of Hotel Corque with attention to detail and custom design.

For years the hidden gem of wine country called Hotel Corque was known only to a lucky few. Located just north of Santa Barbara in the foot hills of the Los Padres National Forest, this four star hotel is perfect for experiencing some of California's most beautiful scenery and some of the best California wines.

In 2007 the Santa Ynez band of Chumash Indians purchased Hotel Corque and recently completed a gorgeous renovation, with the help of Debra Cummings and Susan Cregg of SANDdesign. SANDdesign approached this project as a collaborative effort, working with the owners to understand the experience they wanted to create for their guests. The personal touch and attention to detail of Cummings and Cregg included a personal visit to the manufacturer of the lobby's spectacular, locally-inspired, rustic wood beams and columns, just one example of SAND design's hands-on approach.

Guests have six accomodations to choose from. Each is a unique reflection of the rich local history, culture and beauty. Local vineyards, the Los Padres National Forest and the rich Native American and Spanish cultures of the Santa Ynez Valley provided the perfect inspiration for this dynamic team of designers. As a warming focal point in the guest living rooms, SAND design created an original back-lit falling leaf patterned mirror. They also included organic wood framed back lit mirrors in the guest bathrooms, matching the rustic wood beams in the hotel lobby.

To make their vision a reality SANDdesign asked the expertise of Everett, WA-based Electric Mirror. Cummings explains that SANDdesign has worked with Electric Mirror on past challenging projects at the MGM Detroit and the Anaheim Marriott. "We know each other, have the same business philosophy, and when we need Electric Mirror they always come through."

Electric Mirror is known for its intimate service approach, attention to detail, and willingness to try new ideas. Always on the cutting edge of design and technology, customizing the hotel's reflective art piece mirrors was not a problem. According to Aaron Mischel, a partner in the family-run business, "What separates us is service and capability. We are able to give our clients hands-on treatment because we make everything in-house. We can create anything they design."

The next time you need an escape into luxury, find your way to the Santa Ynez Valley and enjoy the warm hospitality of Hotel Corque.
